Amman, Jordan – June 2, 2025 – On June 2nd, the BONEX project held its 4th workshop at the Fairmont Hotel in Amman, marking a significant step forward in promoting integrated policies across the water, energy, food, and ecosystem (WEFE) sectors in Jordan. The event brought together experts, policymakers, and key stakeholders to present the project’s main findings and policy recommendations, with a particular focus on the launch of the BONEX Policy Brief and the dynamic discussion that followed.

The workshop opened with welcome remarks from the German Jordanian University (GJU) and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), both emphasizing the importance of cross-sectoral collaboration in addressing Jordan’s resource challenges.

Dr. Serena Sandri provided an overview of the BONEX project, introducing its innovative Nexus Bridging Plan. This was followed by a presentation from Dr. Arwa Abdelhay, who shared key outcomes from the demonstration site in Wadi Al Wala, showcasing practical applications of the WEFE Nexus approach. Participants also viewed the official BONEX Jordan video, which illustrated the project’s on-the-ground impacts.

The highlight of the event was the presentation of the BONEX Policy Brief for Jordan by Dr. Munjed Alsharif. The brief outlines actionable strategies to strengthen WEFE Nexus governance in the country, addressing critical gaps in policy coordination. The presentation led into an open discussion moderated by Dr. Luay Juma, where participants engaged in a lively exchange on implementation challenges, stakeholder engagement, and policy scalability.

In the closing remarks, Dr. Nooh Alshyab emphasized how the discussions underscored the urgency of adopting a Nexus approach in Jordan’s policymaking, supporting the newly established Nexus Council, and building on successful initiatives like BONEX.

The workshop concluded with a networking lunch, providing further opportunities for dialogue and collaboration among attendees.
