Gender Equality

BONEX is a project that is committed to gender equality and seeks to achieve it by developing targeted and effective strategies. Some data show that women occupy 43% of the global agricultural workforce, highlighting discrimination in land and livestock ownership, wages, participation in decision-making processes, and access to credit and financial services. To address this, BONEX has developed tools to prevent these disparities from being replicated, through the establishment of a Gender Committee. This committee will be responsible for evaluating gender balance, providing adequate training on gender equality, disseminating educational material, and ensuring the integration of gender sensitivity into project practices. At BONEX, we believe that achieving gender equality not only helps to improve performance but also fosters innovation, encourages creativity, and enhances the overall quality of the project.

Some data demonstrate BONEX’s commitment to these goals: women represent 43.5% of leadership positions in decision-making bodies and 50% of the External Advisory Board; furthermore, 55.2% of the Gender Committee is composed of women, allowing for the analysis of norms and social relationships from an equitable perspective. This approach allows BONEX to challenge gender stereotypes, promote the cross-sector participation of women, and achieve gender balance, emphasizing how the success of women in this sector is crucial, while particularly focusing on improving the gender inclusion capabilities of project partners.

Gender Equality in BONEX

The BONEX project places gender equality at the forefront of its mission, integrating gender-sensitive policies across all levels of project implementation. With the establishment of a Gender Committee, BONEX ensures that gender balance and diversity are embedded in decision-making processes, fostering an inclusive environment that drives sustainable development.

To achieve this, BONEX is actively developing and applying gender-sensitive strategies within the Water, Energy, Food, and Ecosystems (WEFe) Nexus. The project is advancing these goals through the creation of a Gender Action Plan, the co-creation of gender-responsive solutions with local actors, and the promotion of gender-balanced participation in project activities.

Through these efforts, BONEX aims to address existing gender disparities in agriculture, resource management, and environmental governance. With targeted campaigns and materials, the project is raising awareness, promoting inclusivity, and encouraging the active involvement of women in all aspects of the WEFe Nexus.
