Rafael Casielles, coordinator of the BONEX & project manager in BIOAZUL, together with the BONEX Tunisian team played a pivotal role in the 5th Mediterranean Water Forum, held in Tunis, Tunisia from February 05 to 07, 2024, fostering collaboration and driving discussions on innovative water management practices. The Tunisian team composed of Olfa Mahjoub, the Tunisian coordinator, and the team members as Abir Ben Slimane, Abdellaziz Zairi, Syrine Jemaa, and Hacbib Ammami also took part in the event, all driven by the motivation to highlight the innovative WEFE applied approach brought by BONEX project and to gain a broad knowledge on on-going discussions and projects around the Nexus.

Indeed, the BONEX project aims to translate the WEFE Nexus into practical solutions, bridging the gap between theory and action in water management. As Rafael Casielles engaged with fellow stakeholders and experts, his presence underscored the project’s commitment to bridging the gap between theory and action, ensuring that innovative approaches to water management are not merely conceptual but practical and impactful.

Participation in the Mediterranean Water Forum provided Rafael Casielles and the Tunisian team with a unique opportunity to collaborate with a diverse spectrum of actors, from policymakers to practitioners, all united in their shared goal of addressing water challenges in the region. However, it was the session and side events dedicated to the WEFE Nexus that held particular significance for Casielles and the Tunisian BONEX team project. The side event organized by UfMs/GWPMed/AECID/CAWTAR on the linkages between gender and the WEFE Nexus in Mediterranean has received special interest. Amidst insightful discussions and thought-provoking exchanges, Casielles and the Tunisian team gained invaluable insights and perspectives that will inform and enrich the ongoing work of the project, propelling it closer to its mission of realizing the full potential of the WEFE Nexus in practice.

The participation of BONEX team not only served to strengthen the bonds of collaboration within the Mediterranean water community but also reaffirmed the vital role of initiatives like the BONEX project in driving sustainable change.
