Professor Arwa Abdelhay from German Jordanian University (GJU) Presents BONEX Project at the Arab Water Forum 2024 in Abu Dhabi
Professor Arwa Abdelhay of the German Jordanian University presented the BONEX project at the Arab Water Forum 2024, held in Abu Dhabi from September 16th to 18th. The project focuses on enhancing the Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystems (WEFe) Nexus framework across the Mediterranean region to address pressing issues such as water scarcity, energy insecurity, food security, and ecosystem degradation.
Professor Arwa highlighted the project’s innovative approach, including the development of Nexus Bridging Plans (NBPs) tailored to diverse socioeconomic contexts. One of the project’s key demonstration sites is in Jordanโs Wadi Mujib Basin, where acute challenges like water scarcity and unemployment are being tackled through sustainable solutions such as hydroponics and solar energy.
These efforts, co-managed by youth and womenโs cooperatives, significantly reduce water usage, improve food production, and safeguard ecosystems. The BONEX project aligns with national and international frameworks, including the Sustainable Development Goals, offering replicable models for sustainable development throughout the Mediterranean.
