A team  from German Jordanian University, one of the BONEX partners, visited the Jordanian Cooperative Corporation in Madaba, where they met with a group of workers in the agricultural and cooperative sector in Madaba Governorate. The attendees from Madaba’s various institutions included representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture, representatives from some cooperative societies in Madaba Governorate, and employees from the Jordanian Cooperative Corporation.

The visiting German University team consisted of Dr. Munjed Al Sharif, a member of the Bonex Project team, and Dr. Mustafa Jaradat from the Water Extraction from Air project team, which will also be implemented in the project area in Dhiban.

The aim of the meeting was to introduce the attendees to the BONEX project activities and the Jordan DP that the German Jordanian University is implementing in the Dhiban region in cooperation with IUCN and Dhiban Youth Cooperative. The team also presented the successes that have been achieved, and the efforts of the project team to replicate and upscale the results in the future.

During the meeting, the BONEX project and the water extraction from the atmosphere project components were presented to the attendees. The later project will extract moisture from the atmosphere in order to improve the conditions inside the greenhouses and also provide a new source of water that can be used in irrigation.

At the end of the meeting, there was an extensive discussion about the importance of these projects, which are now being implemented in cooperation with civil society institutions, especially those that focus on small cooperatives that are run by unemployed female and male youth  and small farmers.

During the interventions that took place during this session, many of the attendees presented suggestions and ideas that could be used in new projects and also for the expansion of the Dhiban area project.

It was agreed with the attendees that there would be a visit to the project site in Dhiban so that the project’s achievements on the ground could be viewed and also encourage repeating the project’s activities in other places, whether in the Wadi Al Wala area or even in the large Mujib basin.
